Yep, folks, I’ve just returned from seeing Tim Burton’s (and co.) “9”. Ever since I first saw his “Nightmare Before Christmas” as a wee little one, I’ve been an eager fan of his work (though admittedly never saw much else from him until much later). So as you can imagine, I was hyped up as hell when I heard of his list of movies to be released for the next handful of years, which included “9”. I was interested in it when I first read about it, but after seeing the trailer in theaters my interest levels in it peaked out all the way to the top. And I wasn’t disappointed: The movie is grim, dark, and sharp on the edges (literally), but action-packed with stunning visual graphics for everything, right down to the tiniest little speck of detail. The character voices were… well, moderate to me (but then I’m never the best judge when it comes to voice work), but the characters themselves were extremely well-made, being fleshed out stitch-by-stitch, each possessing a personality different and unique from the last. The story was well-crafted, deep, and perhaps not even that far off from what our own future will be like. And as for the machines, well… let’s just say that their rendered, realistic design was enough for me to nearly jump out of my seat in terror.

So, to anyone who is a fan of Tim Burton, whether a newcomer or a devotee (or someone who likes dark, pitch-black machine monsters that terrorize a forlorn world), I highly recommend this movie to you, as it possibly could become one of his best stop-motion films.

So… yeah. Today my supervisor came up to me and said that today was my last day of work. Reason? They said why (I’ll spare you the long details) and it was a reasonable explanation. They did earnestly say that they were pleased with my performance while working with them (since I’m such a good girl, always coming an hour before work starts and… stuff) and told me they would certainly act as a good resource when I go to apply for future jobs. So… yeah. I’ve gotten laid off of work. Just as well, since school’s around the corner for me.

In other news, I caught a shocking cold virus this week. I hate it. Hate it. HATE IT. And Ness is being mean to me and won’t use Healing α to cure it for me. Oh, and did I mention that the only two coloring programs that I have on my computer decided to enact in a shinjū (double suicide)? Yeah… what a week, huh.

Happy Fourth of July/Independence Day/4OJ/whatever you decide to call it day. Hope you all had a good one this year, what with all the firecrackers making that racket and such. Mine was all right: My family and I, we decided this year to head over to the park grounds where a fireworks show was being showcased. We all had a good time there, particularly with the events, which involved a sack race where adults of all ages, ranging between twenty and fifty, participated. (Boy, we all got a kick out of it. ) The fireworks were spectacular, but I kind of spoiled the viewing by exclaiming in Japanese every time a firework exploded while everyone else was ahhhhing and ohhhing in English.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to get some much need rest.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaar, okay, this is going to sound kind of stupid, but…

Uhhh…

…How do you guys (who do digital art), with or without a tablet, do your artwork? How do you draw the lines for the line-art in your pictures (if you draw/ink them in digitally)? What brushes/techniques do you employ? What programs do you use for drawing the line-art? I’m asking because… I have a copy of Photoshop CS4 on me, but these are all I have for brushes:

Well, I also have a few brushes that I’d picked up from DeviantART, but they’re not really for drawing lines and stuff…

Anyway, that’s all I have for “drawing” lines in Photoshop. I really don’t like them: They all have really soft lines, which I don’t want: I want to be able to draw lines that look crisp and clean, like those you see in professional [two dimensional] animation. Daaaaaaaaaaaaar.

I am finally finished. WITH SCHOOL.





So now I will be able to do more artwork over the summer (maybe).



But however… I will be starting a summer job this summer—and work starts in less than a week.



So I still won’t be around as much as I was these past months.



But…

At least I’ll finally be earning my own income.

While playing through my second MOTHER 1 file as a way to pass the time in the car while my family did their shopping business, my mom came back and handed to me—guess what?—a DS cartridge of Kirby Super Star Ultra, saying that she had found it in the parking lot. The cartridge was scratched and dented (and run over by numerous cars, by the looks of it), but popping it into my DS proved that it still works. <(^ω^< )

My theory: If certain persons persistently nag you long enough, raving how great this game is and that you should buy, then the universe will eventually give you a free copy of it. Assuming that the universe is in a good enough mood. Or maybe playing a MOTHER game had something to do with it…

Now, if only I can figure out how to master restart it so I can start my own file…
